Dexter Plaza
Central Falls, Rhode Island / Summer 2014 / Design/build / DESINE Lab / Community Building, Construction, Site Analysis
Dexter Plaza is a DESINE Lab project in conjunction with RISD, Brown University, and Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia, built in Central Falls, Rhode Island.
I was invited to participate in this design/build as a junior in high school. It was a defining experience that made me want to study architecture, go to RISD, and most importantly made me realize that everyone deserves good design.
We constructed a space in the heart of the city of Central Falls, transforming a parking lot into a revitalized public space. The project is an experiment in how creating public space can impact a community that faces significant economic challenges.
